1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly to us, such as when you create an account, customize your preferences, complete onboarding, chat with our AI assistant, or contact us for support. This may include:
- Account information (email address, name, age group, gender)
- Onboarding profile (mood, wellness goals, interests, self-reflection answers, personal message to your future self)
- AI chat messages and conversation history, including deep introspection sessions
- Weekly goals, blockers, daily check-ins (mood, reflections, intentions), and journal entries
- Bookmarked and shared quotes
- App preferences, theme selections, and notification settings
- Usage data, streaks, hearts balance, and interaction with quotes
- Subscription status and billing events (processed by RevenueCat, not stored by us directly)
- Device information (device type, operating system, device identifier, timezone)
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve our services
- Personalize your experience with relevant quotes, themes, and AI-generated insights
- Power the AI personal assistant for guided conversations, introspection, and goal-setting support
- Generate personalized welcome messages and conversation summaries based on your profile
- Track your personal growth dimensions, streaks, and weekly progress
- Manage your subscription, hearts balance, and premium features
- Send you notifications and daily reminders (if enabled)
- Respond to your comments, questions, and requests
- Monitor and analyze trends, usage, and activities to improve the App
3. AI-Powered Features & Third-Party AI Processing
Bars uses artificial intelligence to power several features:
- Personal AI assistant — a conversational guide for reflections, goal-setting support, and general well-being conversations
- Deep introspection sessions — guided question-and-answer flows personalized to your profile, with AI-generated follow-up insights
- Conversation summaries — AI-generated summaries of your introspection sessions, stored on your profile
- Personalized quote introductions — short AI-written sentences introducing curated quotes matched to your profile
To deliver these features, we transmit certain data to third-party AI providers.
Provider: We use OpenRouter as an API gateway to access OpenAI's GPT-4o-mini large language model. Data is processed on servers operated by OpenRouter and OpenAI.
What we send:
- Your chat messages and recent conversation history
- Context from your onboarding profile (first name, current mood, goals, areas you are working on, weekly goal) used to personalize AI responses
- Introspection session messages for summary generation
What we do NOT send: your email address, account credentials, device identifiers, payment information, or advertising identifiers.
Consent: Before your first AI interaction, we show an in-app disclosure explaining this processing. You must explicitly agree before any data is sent to our AI providers.
Training: Under OpenAI's API data usage policies, messages sent through the API are not used to train OpenAI's models.
Retention: AI chat conversations and introspection summaries are stored in our database so you can revisit them. You can request deletion at any time (see Section 6).
Opting out: You can use Bars without AI features. If you decline the AI consent screen, the assistant and introspection features will be unavailable but all other features (quotes, journal, goals, themes) will work normally.
4. Information Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties for advertising. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- With your consent (including AI processing described in Section 3)
- With service providers who assist in our operations, including:
- OpenRouter & OpenAI — AI assistant, introspection, and personalization (see Section 3)
- RevenueCat — subscription management, billing, and purchase verification. RevenueCat receives your anonymous device identifier and purchase events. See RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Firebase (Google) — push notifications and analytics
- To comply with legal obligations
- To protect our rights and prevent fraud
5. Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures to protect your personal information, including encrypted transmission (HTTPS) between your device, our servers, and third-party providers. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your personal information, including AI chat history
- Withdraw consent for AI processing at any time
- Opt-out of marketing communications

7. Children's Privacy
Our App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the "Last updated" date.
